John's of Bleecker Street was founded by Italian immigrant Giovanni "John" Sasso at the turn oaf the 20th century. John's was originally established on Sullivan Street, in the heart of Greenwich Village. After losing his lease on Sullivan Street, John Sasso dismantled his original coal fired brick oven and moved to 278 Bleecker Street where he continued to run and grow his business and refine his pizza recipe to perfection.
Pizza... this might be the bar by which all other NY pizza should be measured. Pasta... chick parm was the best we've had. Food as a whole were the best versions that we've ever had. It's hard to say what makes it perfect, but we can say that everything was done just right. Perfectly executed. Noisy, boisterous; think loud family dinner table! Wonderful place. Our favorite Italian restaurant.
Absolutely delicious! Short wait for a large group outside. Really friendly staff, heaters in the outside tables. Would definitely recommend!!
Came here around 5:30pm on a Sunday night and was seated right away. Overall, it was an amazing coal-fired pizza. The pizza had a perfect crisp without being overcooked and dry. The mozzarella was great, and the sauce was perfect. Definitely my favorite pizza in Manhattan.
It's everything you want in a NY slice. Get whatever is hot and you will be very happy. I tried a cheese slice and the one with fresh mozz. Both were delicious, but the cheese slice had just come out of the oven and therefore was the clear winner. Be ready to order and have cash to keep the line moving. Take your slice outside and plan on eating standing up.
Food: 10/10. We ordered half Margherita and half pepperoni. I'm not a pepperoni pizza fan and would always prefer Margherita but at John's, I preferred the pepperoni pizza. I feel like their pepperoni pizza tasted more of an A+ pepperoni than their margarita pizza tasting like a Margherita pizza. Service: amazing. Very warm and welcoming.
